Since its’ initiation, the MidCoast Watersheds Council has taken a scientific approach to restoration work. This means that strategic, basin-wide biologic assessment processes often proceed actions taken on the ground. This ensures that efforts to restore habitat function at individual properties are done while keeping the rest of the landscape in mind.

In 2001, a watershed assessment was conducted to evaluate coho and steelhead habitat conditions within our working area.

In 1999, an assessment of the tidal wetlands in Yaquina and Alsea Bays was conducted in order to prioritize sites for protection and restoration activities and to provide the initial information needed to discuss with landowners in developing site specific plans and projects.

A Limiting Factors Analysis (LFA) is based on a methodology which incorporates in-the-field surveying and modeling to determine the factors that are most limiting to the survival of a given species, most often coho salmon in Central Oregon Coast streams. This analysis helps assure that restoration and conservation projects best address these factors and allow for targeted restoration plans based on the findings.
